Oh gosh. I need sleep. I am desparately trying to sleep, but when summer nears, I become an insomniac. But of course I have been resting all day. I guess I will wait until later to sleep.
Oh! I read a J.D. Salinger short story. Yay! And for all of you who are blanking on Salinger, he is the wonderful author of the most amazing book ever: Catcher in the Rye. The story is called Franny. Its part of the book Franny & Zooey. I haven't read Zooey yet, becuase it doesnt interest me. But I have read Franny twice now. Gosh, I love Salinger, he is SUCH an amazing writer. I admire his writing style. It's so unique.
In addition, I wrote one of my favorite poems yet. It's not great or anything, but it is sentimental to me. It refers a lot to Franny and it also refers to one of my favorite quotes in Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s famous "I Have a Dream" speech.
" I have a dream that one day even the state of Mississippi, a desert state, sweltering with the heat of injustice and oppression, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice."
I think Dr's use of words is amazing. He truly has a way with words. In addtion to Salinger, I also admire Dr Martin Luther King Jr's writing style. I also like the way he speaks so eloquently.
Anyways, the poem was rather interesting and very political and almost controversial, if you really analyzed it the way I had intended it. The three reasons that have sentimental value to me is the reason why it is one of my favorite poems I have ever written. I think this is my second favorite. My first favorite was one that I had written freshmen year. I was such a disturbed child. Haha. But it really is a great poem because it portrays how strange I was in 9th grade. And that was just a year ago, if you looked at my poems from both years, they are so different. It's not even funny how different they are. But now, I am okay and all is well in my life.
And to leave this entry, I feel I should let it end with an intense finale. So here is the Dr's own words, in which I truly hope this dream comes true someday. It hasn't yet, but I am hopeful that possibly, one day, the world will be free from intolerance and hatred and oppression and prejuce.
"When we let freedom ring, when we let it ring from every village and every hamlet, from every state and every city, we will be able to speed up that day when all of God's children, black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics, will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old Negro spiritual, "Free at last! free at last! thank God Almighty, we are free at last!"
